Peterbald kitten - What do you need to know.

What do you need to know...
1. Were to by Peterbald kitten?
2. Who will be better pet – male or female?
3. Small secrets about care and development of Peterbald kittens.

I would like to share an experience of my friends, who were originators of Peterbald breed in Russia, and my personal – as an American breeder.

Because of the specifics of this breed and very fast popularity there is a number of breeders who try to take advantage and make money. They do not care about health and appearance of kittens! They cage cats and kittens to grow money…..

I will recommend to by Peterbald kitten from reputable cattery. You need to pay attention on registration of cattery, how often cats are shown on Cat Shows, how many cats in the cattery. All this things will tell you about your future Peterbald kitten. Small amount of cats will guarantee a better attention to each cat, health care and sociality. If breeder attends a Cat Shows– breeder cares about appearance of cats.

If Peterbald kitten have too much oriental blood in beck ground – you may expect a personality of kitten more like an Oriental kitten…. Ask for Pedigree to be shown to you if you looking for real unique and incompatible Peterbald personality. There is not supposed to be more than 20% Oriental cats in Pedigree.

The reputable breeder will invite you to see a Cattery, kittens and all cats. Will answer on all your questions.

If you looking for a “baby” – you will need a boy. Males more gentle and sensitive. They more doggy like, more playful. Females are moody, more independent.

I think that the “best pet in the world” – fixed (castrated) male Peterbald!!!!

You can show your kitten as an Alter if you decide to go on Cat Show. I will encourage you to go, it is a fun!

What you will need to prepare before your Peterbald kitten arrived:

Food. I prefer “Hill’s” Science diet: For kittens, Oral care, sensitive skin. Or Royal Canine.
Heating Pad (electric, on low heat)
Bed. Dog house type.
Let your baby sleep with you for the two or three nights. Peterbald kitten will adjust to you and your house faster.

Litter box. I use litter: Fresh Step. Cats are very clean animals. Peterbalds are not greasy, you can bath them occasionally. Use regular cat shampoo. Just make sure that your Peterbald kitten will have worm spot to stay after bath.
My kittens usually sold fixed with all shuts done. The age is 3-4 month. You do not need to spend money on castration and immunization. But I will recommend to go to your Vet for check up to make sure that everything is OK.

Very often the Peterbald kittens grow extra hair (some additional coat) on life period from 4 to 8 month…. Just be aware that this is normal stage of development of coat. After 8 month and up to two years old Peterbald kitten will loose most of the coat.
