 HISTORY OF PETERBALD BREED

The hairlessness is a mutation of cats was found periodically in the world. But only three breeds had been established for now: Canadian Sphinx; Don Hairless; and Peterbald.

In 1994 (in Russia) Olga Mironova started her Breeding Program for Peterbald. She used two breeds: OSH and Don Hairless.
First Peterbald kittens was born in January 1994 (Muskat and Mandarin) In 1995 two more kittens came to the program(Nezenka and Nokturn).
These cats become a base of the Breed. (The real Peterbalds must have in Pedigree at list one of these cats).

In 1996 the Peterbald Breed was accepted by CFF and certified with abbreviation: PBD (Europe) The first standard was created by originator of breed: Olga Mironova.

 BREED STANDARD
(First virgin-original)

History: The breed is created as a result of introduction of dominant Don Hairless mutation to genotype
of Oriental breed. The basis of breed was consisted of animals obtained in St. Petersburg by O. Mironova.

GENERAL: hairless, elegant, slim but strong animals, hot at the touch, with long body, long legs and long tail. Kittens may be born hairless or covered by wavy Rex Coat and “bald spot” on the head. Curly whiskers are distinguished sign for newly born sphinx. Eyes are opened early – on the 2-5 days of life.
HEAD: wedge-shaped, with flat plan at the top of the head, high cheek bones and flat cheeks.
Straight profile. Muzzle should not be sharply pointed. A slight pinch is allowable. Chin is perpendicular with the end of the nose and with under chin level.
WHISKERS: curly or may be absent.
EYES: almond shaped. Set slanted. Eye color should be green or blue.
EARS: large, not wide at the base, medium sat. Outer lines of the ears continuing the lines of the wedge.
BODY: long, well muscular.
LEGS: long, slim but strong-boned. Oval paws with long toes.
TAIL: long, thin and tapering to the tip.
SKIN: thin, “excessive”, wrinkled. Residual flock furnishing, no more than 2 mm length, on whole body is  Available as well as short sparse noat on the muzzle, ears, legs. Separate hairs at the tail are available too.
FULL HAIRLESSNESS IS PREFERABLE.
COLOR: all tabby and tortie variety combined into the “tabby” and “tortie” group without distinguishing As per their markings.
PENALIZE: rounded head, rounded eyes, small ears, short body, short or incorrectly ended tail, complete covering with curled fur. Malocclusion less than 2 mm.
DISQUALIFY: eyelids turn inwards. Malocclusion less than 2 mm. Complete covering of normal-developed fur.
Outcross with other breeds: ORI; SIA; Don Hairless
 



There is some changes was made since first time, some new registration parties accepted the Peterbald Breed.

Several years ago the Peterbald came to US and was accepted by TICA (May, 2006).

Very fast the Peterbald Breed becomes popular! More and more breeders join a group.
